Recognized research group SOCRIEM:THE SOCIETY OF THE IBERIAN KINGDOMS IN THE MIDDLE AGES (Until February 2021 GIR Code UNED 374: La sociedad en la corona de Castilla en la Baja Edad Media)
The Group is based at UNED (www.uned.es), the largest distance learning university in Spain, with a main campus in Madrid, a network of 61 Associate Centers throughout Spain and Support Centers in 13 countries in Europe, America and Africa. It enrolls about 205,000 students a year, offers 27 undergraduate degrees, 68 official Master’s degrees and 18 doctoral programs. The University consists of 11 Faculties and a Doctoral School. Its research groups maintain collaborations with companies and have experience in R&D&i research projects funded by national and international institutions. It has been involved in European projects since the FP5, and currently leads projects within the following European funding schemes: Horizon 2020 ERC Starting Grants, INFRADEV, MSCA-RISE, as well as NFRP 10, EURO-SOCIETY and JUSTAction Grants.
UNED is a member of several academic associations, such as the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE, www.icde.org), the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU, www.eadtu.eu), the Asociación Iberoamericana de Educación Superior a Distancia (AIESAD, www.aiesad.org), the European University Association (EUA, www.eua.be), and the European Distance and the E-learning Network (EDEN, www.eden-online.org).

RESEARCH FIELDS
The members of SOCRIEM approach the study of medieval Iberian society from a wide variety of complementary perspectives in order to produce a rich and multifaceted panorama of the medieval context in the Iberian Peninsula. The group focuses on the study of social, institutional and diplomatic relations in the Iberian kingdoms in the Middle Ages. The wide scientific production of the members of SOCRIEM over the last few years includes monographs, contributions to conferences and articles in specialized journals, as well as the participation of several team members in projects and research contracts, the organization of seminars and scientific meetings, the supervision of PhD theses, research stays in centers abroad, and the reception of awards and grants, among other activities.
